Get to Know the Author
Adam Nyang is a Gambian writer whose work spans literary fiction, romance, and fantasy. She was long-listed for the K and L Prize for her short story Faroh. Her writing explores intimacy, spirituality, and self-discovery, often moving fluidly across genres and centering the interior lives of her characters.
She began her writing journey early, publishing her first book, Agonies and Fortunes, while in the eleventh grade at Nusrat Senior Secondary School. The book was distributed as a reading supplement among junior students, inspiring other young Gambian writers.
"I write because the stories I needed to read didn't exist yet so I had to create them myself."
Adam later received a scholarship to pursue her bachelor’s degree in Morocco, where she spent five years and earned a B.A. in English Studies alongside an advanced diploma in French. In 2022, she was selected as one of eighteen writers for the Changemakers Authors Cohort, :highlighted should be a hyper link, here is the link (https://narrativeinitiative.org/changemaker-authors-cohort-participants/) a U.S.-based mentorship program supporting emerging authors. That same year, she was also selected for a residency with Library of Africa and The African Diaspora (LOATAD), where she spent a month in Ghana developing her work and engaging with other African writers.
She is the author of the novella Betting on Love, published by Love Africa Press under the pen name Kani Sey, and the short story collection Still Waters. She currently serves as an editor at Global Hands Publishing and is working on a novel.
Adam has a deep love for travel and has lived and explored across Africa and Asia, including time spent in China and Indonesia. Alongside writing, she is passionate about music and cinema, and remains committed to building a body of work that resonates across cultures
